A Settler's Waldorf

 \"A Settler\'s Waldorf\" historic earth cottage
\"A Settler\'s Waldorf\" historic earth cottage
Location O'Connell
Type Cottage/ House
Attraction 6 km to Historic O'Connell Village

Early settlers cosy mud cottage on a small farm. Old fashioned charm & simplicity, modern comfort, peaceful and private, open log fire and electric heaters, splendid central tableland views. Tennis court. Reasonable rates.

A Settler's Waldorf accommodates four guests in two bedrooms - one with twin King single beds and the other with a Queen sized bed. The cottage is fully self contained.

Your privacy is respected and assured. The cottage has a private entrance separate to the main house which is 150 metres away and secluded in a rambling country garden of many shady trees.

Well placed for exploring the region, A Settler's Waldorf is six kms from the National Trust classified village of O'Connell; 25 kms from Australia's oldest inland settlement Bathurst; 50 kms from the Industrial Heritage City of Lithgow and 30 kms from caves country Oberon.

Simple and restful old fashioned charm is the essence of this cosy and comfortable cottage without clocks, telephone, television and digital clutter.

The cottage walls are largely constructed of rammed earth which provide excellent insulation. The cottage stays warm when temperatures fall. The garden is safely fenced for young children and features fragrant old fashioned roses and perennial plants blended in a water wise garden with Australian plants.

Delightful walks and pleasant drives can be enjoyed in the immediate area. The Fish River has some great picnic and swimming spots. Day trips can be comfortably made to the many nature reserves and national parks (including Jenolan & Abercrombie Caves and Kanangra Walls); authentic former gold mining settlements such as Hill End and Sofala and various other interesting early settled villages many of which have been classified by the national Trust.

A picnic at Flat Rock on the beautiful Fish River; a walk up Evan's Crown with its impressive massive granite boulders; and a visit to enchanting Longwood Studio and the Old Schoolhouse Art Gallery at Tarana (residence of artist and illustrator, Sandra Laroche) are three of many pleasurable local outings we can highly recommend when you stay at A Settler's Waldorf. A sunny day could happily end with a favourite tipple sipped beneath the ancient shady Elm tree at the historic and popular O'Connell Pub. Excellent gourmet fare can be savoured at the O'Connell Cafe and Deli.

O'Connell's high country has four distinct seasons from warm summers to chilly winters when the air is crisp, clear and invigorating. There are glorious displays of spring and autumn colour. The changing seasons and quality of light, the picturesque landscape, make A Settlers's Waldorf a paradise for gardeners, artists, romantics and all who enjoy the beautiful Australian bush

Take time to smell the fragrant old fashioned roses at this quaint mud cottage. Do nothing more energetic than listen to the figs grow (and eat them in season) and relax with a good book by the open log fire.

Everything has been catered for. The beautiful crisp sheets and comfortable and warm beds. The fluffy towels in the bathroom. All the firewood chopped and stacked ready for use. The serenity of the cottage is a wonderful retreat from the city. Far more appealing than any resort style accommodation. Very highly recommended.
