Delightful Victorian Gothic classic building with steep gables, wide verandahs and high ceilings graced with cornices, roses, skirtings, dado and picture rails. The jarrah timber floors are set off by warm cream and ivory tones.
The main bedrooms have new King-sized beds with electric blankets and quality bed linen and quilts. Quality towels and bath robes are supplied for the comfort of our guests. An extra guest can stay in an attached bedroom provided with a King single bed.
The building, only just completed, has been constructed in the grand old style befitting its historic location and superb grounds. On an acre and a half, Elm Wood is graced by 100-year old Elms, Oaks, Ashes, Walnuts, Lindens, a Sweet Chestnut, a rare Monkey Puzzle tree and a magnificent Cedar. An orchard, berry garden and vegetable patch have recently been planted. Seasonal produce is available to guests.

Location
Whether arriving by air or ferry at Launceston or Devonport, follow Highway 1 to the Westbury turnoff (about 30 minutes drive from Launceston airport, or 50 minutes from Devonport airport or ferry terminal). Drive to the western end of the village following the signs to the Village Green. Elm Wood is at 10 Lonsdale Promenade.
Westbury is green year round, is more English than England with its hedgerows, deciduous trees and rich green pastures. It is never too hot in summer (30 celcius max) and you will be cozy and warm here during your winter stay (minimum -6 celcius on frosty mornings).
Westbury is in the central north of the State and provides exceptional access over excellent roads to attractions to the north, south, east and west.

What to do and see?
Make Elm Wood your home base to explore Tasmania's natural beauty (Cradle Mountain, North West Coast, limestone caves, Great Western Tiers, Launceston and the East Coast) - all within a 90 minute drive; visit Tamar Valley wineries - only 45 minutes away; sample the local cheeses, salmon delicacies, raspberry products, honeys and chocolates - up to 40 minutes drive; or spend an hour or two or the whole day on one of 40 great walking tracks, many into World Heritage areas with trail heads only 20 to 60 minutes away.
The local village of Westbury was established in the 1820's when it was laid out to be the major northern centre of the State. It has many fine examples of early colonial church and residential architecture. At the History Room, Max Frost will entertain you with stories of the early settlement. While here you might like to visit the National Trust's White House, the tractor museum or the serious Westbury maze.
Westbury boasts a number of eateries including fine dining at Hobnobs, wholesome meals at Fitzpatrick's Inn and country kitchen meals at the Westbury hotel.
